What Is The Difference Between A Walker And A Rollator?

Walkers and rollators are both mobility aids, but different. The main difference between a rollator and a walker is that walkers can have from one to four wheels, also no wheels but four legs. Rollators are similar to walkers, but come with three or four wheels, stir and brakes. Two wheels rollators have no brakes, while a three or four wheels ones do.

Walkers

A walker is a frame made from metal or aluminum, with four legs. Designed for individuals who are not stable on foot, who find it difficult to take more than a few steps, or are recovering from an injury and require extra support and stability when walking. To walk with a walker, it is needed to lift up the device in order to go after each step. The first two legs of a walker can either have wheels attached to them, or they can not, depending on the strenght and abilities of the person using it.

Rollators

Rollators, also called rolling walkers, are devices similar to the walkers, but can have three to four wheels. Although rollators have wheels and hand brakes, they are not designed for people who are completely dependent on the walker for support and managing their weight. Unlike a traditional walker, which has to be lifted up and set down every time it takes a step, a rollator is propelled using its wheels. Two wheels rollators have no hand breaks, while four wheels ones have. We can always add rollator walker accessories to make its use easier.

Conclusion

If you have problems with balanceweak legs when standing, or you require a firm, stationary support to assist with walking,
then you should not use a rollator, but rather use a walker. A rollator is useful if you have weak arms and find it
difficult to pick up an ordinary walker.

Rollators are generally more complex than a regular walker with wheels. They are adjustable in height, are lighter, but are
still stronger than regular walkers. This makes conventional walkers a perfect, easy-to-use alternative to rolling chairs,
wheelchairs, or hybrid walkers. Walkers and rolling chairs are the most common mobility assistance devices, providing similar
benefits that allow for a more active lifestyle.

Three Wheels Rollators

As the name says, three wheeled rolators have three wheels, stir and brakes. Less stable than a four wheels ones, but easier to turn and good enough to enhance balance.
